Hugo Gamboa founded Plux in 2007 together with 4 other partners and has grown the company from an individual research project to product medical device company with growing international sales and research seeking second round of financing. PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, Technical University of Lisbon. His thesis entitled "Multi-Modal Behavioral Biometrics Based on HCI and Electrophysiology" presents new behavioral biometrics modalities which are an important contribute for the state-of-the-art in the field.). From 2000 to 2007 he was a Professor at Escola Superior de Tecnologia de Setúbal, where he taught in the field of Artificial Intelligence. In recognition of his work by the European Biometric Forum, he was among the three finalists of the EBF Biometric Research Award 2007. In 2008 he was the winner of the Portuguese National Award “Futuras Promessas” ISA/Millennium BCP, granted to the best PhD thesis on Physics, Electronics, Informatics or Biomedical Engineering fields. | |

Between 2000 and 2001 he was manager of the system at the Network Studies Department of Rede Eléctrica Nacional, S.A. (REN). In 1997 he was awarded with the first prize at the Galileu IV creation and invention contest. In 1996 he developed a software for the Portuguese Institute of Quality (IPQ – Instituto Português da Qualidade) that allowed the automatic synchronization of the PC's internal clock with the Universal Coordinated Time maintained at IPQ. | |

PhD in Electrical and Computers Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), he is Chief Innovation Officer at PLUX, a researcher at the IT - Instituto de Telecomunicações since 2004, and a Professor at EST/IPS – Escola Superior de Tecnologia do Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal since 2016, where he teaches courses in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Pattern Recognition and Biomedical Technologies. In 2012 Hugo was a visiting researcher at the Computational and NeuroEgineering Labority (CNEL) from the University of Florida. His work has been distinguished with several academic and technical awards such as the the “alumniIPS” career award in 2018, the 1st place at the Ordem dos Engenheiros Young Engineer Innovation Award in 2015 with the project “BIT: Biosignal Igniter Toolkit”, the 1st place at the Venture Day Lisbon in 2013 with the project “Vitalidi: Your Heart (h)as a Key!”, the selection as a semi-finalist to the Engadget Expand NY Inset Coin competition in 2013, the Life Sciences Award in 2010 at a venture competition co-promoted by the MIT, and the "Caixa Geral de Depósitos Award'' from 2003 to 2005 for recognized academic merit. More recently, he has been actively working (i.e. having fun) towards making the world a bit more physiological through BITalino, an open source software and low-cost hardware toolkit, that allows anyone from students to professional app developers, to create cool projects and applications with physiological sensors. | |

He was a founding member and Director of the Portuguese Association for the Promotion of Multimedia in Portugal (APMP - Associação para a Promoção da Multimédia em Portugal). Currently is Member of the Board of the Christian Association of Entrepreneurs and Managers (ACEGE - Associação Cristã de Empresários e Gestores), and of the Luso-Brazilian Entrepreneurs Club.
